GCSE Results Day 2026

Delighted to see so many 7s, 8s and 9s!

Huge congratulations to all my students this results day.

The most common grade received was grade 7, followed by grade 9.

Here are some of the highlights:

• A student studying Edexcel English achieved 9s in both English Literature and English Language after starting Year 10 at grade 4

• A student studying AQA English scored 9s in both English Literature and English Language after getting 6s in their mocks, including 100% in English Literature paper 1

• A student attending my AQA class for a charity achieved a grade 8 and 7 in their English GCSEs (their school’s average is grade 5)

• A student studying AQA English secured a well-deserved pass in both English GCSEs after scoring grade 3 in their mock

• A student studying OCR English scored a 9 and 7 after receiving a 7 and 6 in their mock

• Another student studying OCR English achieved grade 7 in both after receiving grade 5 in their mocks

But more so than their grades, I’m proud of the skillsets so many displayed that grades struggle to represent. I was especially proud of the following students:

• One who wrote 2 of the best Macbeth homework essays I’ve ever read

• One who confidently disagreed with me about many of my interpretations (and often was right!)

• One who wrote the funniest piece of fiction I’ve read from a student — turning a snowball fight into a neighbourhood war

I will remember those experiences for years to come.
